Pete Signore's 279 game still the single game record for the 20th Season in a Row

Connecticut - Pete Signore has held the single game record in duckpin bowling for quite a while now it seems. On March 5 this year it will mark the 2oth anniversary of his record breaking game of 279 at the T-Bowl Lanes in Newington. It is a record that may never be broken, but as it always is in the game of duckpins, is unpredictable as anything.
Pete was 39 years old at the time, his highest game in his career, a 214. Bowling a 132 his first game of the night he walks on up the lanes to start his second just like any other night. He starts out the game with a tough break, the 7-8 split after hitting the pocket. With some luck and some skill, Signore converts the 7-8 for a spare that eventually started history. He then went on to throw nine consecutive strikes into the tenth box, quite a accomplishment in itself. Two balls left to go. He rolls down for nine, leaving the seven pin. He ultimately converts the pin for an incredible 279 game, and history...
With the 279, Pete surpasses the previous single game record of 272 which was held by James 'Tiger' Baker of Virginia Beach, VA that he shot on October 1, 1991. 278 was thrown by both Mike Trepanier of Connecticut and Randy Farlow of Maryland and still remain 1 pin shy of the record.
Pete rolled the 132, 279 and then finished with a 147 game for a 558 set. Its's hard to beleive that there were just two ordinary games between the new record in duckpin bowling.
His game of 279 is still the record today as most duckpin bowlers know. He is often called 'The Champ' or 'Champ 'ol Boy' by others, but he is the single game champion for our game at the moment. Will we ever see anyone go by it? It would be quite amazing if anyone did, but for now it's Pete's record to hold as we remember the history of it all from 20 years ago.
